Applicant Portal Help: College Membership

Details captured within the college section of the Postgraduate Applicant Portal help facilitate arrangements for college membership should your application for admission to the University be successful.

It is important to note that your College preferences will not be taken into consideration during the academic assessment of your application.

You do not have to select a College preference, if you don’t then a College will automatically be assigned to you if you receive an offer of admission to the University.

If you're made an offer of admission for more than one course, you’ll usually be given membership by the same College for all of your successful applications.  

If you have previously studied at Cambridge and are already a member of a College, you may select different Colleges as your preferences.

If you have a disability and would like to know about the accessibility of each of the Colleges, you are advised to check the 'Access in Colleges' page on the Accessibility and Disability Resource Centre website.

Selecting a preference

If you would like to provide a college preference, use the information available on the Colleges section of the Postgraduate Admissions website, as well as the Colleges' individual websites. Research the Colleges to find one or two that interest you most.

You may not be offered membership at either of the Colleges you have selected as a preference, but your preferences will be taken into consideration when allocating applications between the Colleges.

Once you have been assigned a College, you will be notified via your self-service.

Are you already a member of a University of Cambridge College?

If you have ever been a member of a College at the University of Cambridge before, you benefit from being a member of that College for life.

If you are already a member of a College, you can indicate which College here.

If you did not select this College as your first or second preference, you will not automatically be considered by this College for membership.
